Barnyard Backpackers is the backpack hostel within the reach of Fiordland National Park.
You’ll find the hostel on a 50-acre deer farm between Te Anau and Manapouri, 9km from Te Anau. You’ll probably also see sheep, horses, cats and a dog too – there’s room for everyone here!
All the rooms are in log cabin units and each has a private bathroom, TV, heating and grand views overlooking Fiordland bush and river. The beautiful hand-crafted building’s dining area features a large open wood fire and, with beds starting from $30 per person, it really is “serenity in a rustic setting”.
Barnyard Backpackers is a place full of character. The main house has a big and well equipped kitchen, a huge fireplace in the middle of the room and upstairs common room has a pool table. The views towards the mountains and the valley are second to none.
The hostel is easily reached from Te Anau town center by car. It should be about 10 minutes drive. Barnyard Backpackers is a good option to have as your base to explore Fjordland national park.
